What is SIAMS?
SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) is a framework designed specifically for Church of England and Methodist schools. Unlike a standard Ofsted inspection, SIAMS focuses on evaluating the impact of our school's Christian vision on both pupils and adults.
What Do SIAMS Inspectors Look For?
SIAMS inspections examine three key areas:
1. Our Christian Vision: Inspectors explore how our school's Christian vision shapes everything we do and influences the lives of our pupils and staff.
2. Our Provision: They look at what we provide as a school because of our Christian vision – from our curriculum and collective worship to our pastoral care and relationships.
3. Our Impact: Most importantly, inspectors evaluate how effective our provision is in enabling all pupils and adults to flourish and thrive.
A Context-Specific Approach
SIAMS inspectors understand that every Church school is unique. They don't look for a one-size-fits-all template of what a Church school should be like. Instead, they:
- Take our particular context and community into account
- Recognise that we employ strategies and approaches appropriate to our setting
- Focus on outcomes rather than processes
- Evaluate how effectively we express our Christian character and ethos in ways that are meaningful for our school
This means inspectors assess whether we are being distinctively and effectively Christian in a way that suits our pupils, our community and our context.
