Technology is an integral part of modern life, and at High Hurstwood CE Primary School we are committed to preparing children for a future in an increasingly digital world. We aim to develop confident, capable and responsible users of technology who can use digital tools creatively, safely and effectively.

We follow the nationally recognised Teach Computing Curriculum, which provides a clear progression of knowledge and skills from Year R through to Year 6. Through this curriculum, children develop their understanding of computer science, information technology and digital literacy. They learn to create, program, evaluate and apply technology in a variety of meaningful contexts, building the skills they will need for their future education and beyond.

Online safety forms a key part of our computing provision. Alongside dedicated computing lessons, children learn how to stay safe online through our PSHE, Relationships and Health Education, and Online Safety curriculum. We also participate in annual events such as Safer Internet Day to reinforce important messages about responsible digital citizenship.

Computing is taught through discrete lessons, allowing children to develop specific skills and knowledge that can then be applied across the wider curriculum. Technology is regularly used to support learning in other subjects, enabling pupils to research, collaborate, create and present their work in a variety of engaging ways.

Children have access to a range of digital devices, including laptops and iPads, both within classrooms and across the school. These resources provide regular opportunities for children to develop their digital skills and use technology as a tool for learning.

We encourage pupils to become confident and independent users of technology, able to find, analyse, create and communicate information responsibly. As children move through the school, they develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to use technology safely, effectively and creatively, preparing them for the opportunities and challenges of an ever-changing digital world.

Technology is an integral part of everyday life.  At High Hurstwood CE Primary School, we prepare our children for a future in an environment which is shaped by technology. We aim to develop confident, independent learners who plan, design, create, program and evaluate information through the use of ICT.  As well as the benefits of ICT we are also aware of the risks, therefore we prepare our children to stay safe online through a robust Online Safety Curriculum, as well as promoting online safety through the annual Safer Internet Day. We acknowledge that computing and e-learning makes a massive contribution to all aspects of school life, for pupils, staff, governors, parents and the wider community, in this ever-changing technological world.   

We recognise that children are living within an increasingly technological world and aim to develop confidence and knowledge in this area. Computing skills are taught and practised within discrete sessions so that they can be applied across the curriculum to enhance other subjects. Alongside the computing curriculum, aspects of Online Safety through the PSHE, Online Safety and RSE curriculum are taught.  As children leave primary school, we aim for children to transfer this knowledge and have the confidence to implement these skills in everyday situations.

Every class has access to a range of IT equipment including an IT Suite, 15 Laptops and 15 iPads.  We encourage staff to incorporate technology throughout the wider curriculum and use these skills to research and present writing in a variety of ways. Each class has access to an Interactive Whiteboard, and teaching is delivered using this technology. Skills are covered through a two-year rolling programme to ensure that children are taught the appropriate skills to support their development.  Pupils use a range of technology to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information responsibly and creatively. They learn how to employ computing to enable rapid access to ideas, information and experiences from a range of sources, people, communities and cultures. Increased capability in the use of computing promotes initiative and independent learning, with pupils being able to make informed judgements about when and where to use computing to best effect, and to consider its implications for home and work both now and in the future.
